Vivien is having a bad morning. Her friend Juan has just died, and everyone from their homeless block is stealing his things. As a homeless alcoholic, she faces a turning point in her life after his death. His passing shakes her to the core, forcing her to confront the harsh realities of her existence. Struggling with grief and addiction, Vivien realizes she must find a way to lift herself out of poverty.
Determined to honor Juan’s memory, she finds his cache of stories written in Spanish. She sets herself the goal of learning the language to understand more of his life, hoping it will help her.
His stories tell of a valuable Civil War-era statue that she hopes will help her financially. But there’s much more to the statue, and she’s not the only one looking for it as she battles to reclaim her future.
